About Samira
About MeI was born in Chicago, raised in Texas, and currently reside in Chicago.
I'm a plant mom with a couple of hobbies that include acrylic painting, pottery, roller skating, and reading some fiction books (yes, that includes re-reading Harry Potter books). I enjoy going to the gym (whenever I make time) and spending time with my multiple friend groups and family. I'm really big on sustainable living and enjoy doing my part in protecting our environment. I also really care about raising awareness about environmental justice and promote justice for those oppressed and colonized. My Education B.S | Earth and Environmental Sciences | University of Illinois at Chicago
PhD | Ecology & Evolution | University of Illinois at Chicago | current Defining ExperiencesI've been working with Dr. Gonzalez-Meler since 2019 and have worked on multiple projects that included soil ecology from Midewin National Tallgrass Prarie and some Arctic ocean chemistry during my 18-day expedition through the Northwest Passage.
I've also worked with multiple Alaskan soil samples during an internship at Argonne National Laboratory and am currently exploring the influence and implications of microplastics in Alaskan soil and permafrost samples. |
